It’s almost a new year! That means it’s time for New Year’s resolutions.
Now, we all know that most resolutions go out the window sometime in mid-February (or even earlier for some of us!). However, there are a few resolutions that should stick because they are so important.
Pest control is one of those resolutions.
Skeptical? Let us explain.
When it comes to pest control, it’s critical to be proactive. Unfortunately, many homeowners wait until a problem gets completely out of hand before calling in the professionals. They might see just one or two ants and assume that a few pests are “no big deal.” Or they might try to deal with the problem themselves. But insects and rodents can be hard to eliminate, and they multiply quickly. The next thing the homeowners know, a small problem has become a massive infestation—which is more expensive and time-consuming to fix.
When you’re proactive about pest control, however, you can rest easier. You’ll find small problems—like a few ants or a mouse nest in your kitchen—before they become a full-blown infestation. The fixes will be far easier and faster and usually cheaper.
Proactive Pest Control
Convinced that pest control is important but unsure where to start? Let’s talk about how you can be proactive.
Pests are a year-round problem, so it’s important to always be on the lookout for signs of insect and rodent activity. Pest control isn’t something you can do once a year and forget about: there’s no single insecticide, bait, or tactic that will work forever and on all pests. Instead, it’s important to know your pests and be able to recognize when there is a problem.
Some pests are active at any time of the year, so you should check for them regularly. Bed bugs and rodents are two such pests. Other pests, like termites and mosquitoes, are active for only a few seasons, going “dormant” in the winter. For these pests, it’s important to be especially vigilant during the seasons they are active. (Although the pests might still be in your home, it’s harder to spot them in the off season. A qualified pest control professional can look for them then.)
We recommend starting each season with a pest check-up. You probably already do many things around your house to prepare for the next season: things like replacing screen doors with storm doors at the end of fall or doing a deep clean at the end of winter. Simply add a pest check to what you’re already doing!
