Now Hiring: Work at ScherZinger Pest Control—Here’s Why

If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that the success of our company depends directly on the strength of our team. We work closely with our employees day after day, year after year, to encourage, support and develop their particular expertise, interests and dreams for the future. After all, that’s what families do.

However, that isn’t the only reason you should consider joining the ScherZinger Pest Control family.

Eric ScherZinger, Vice President of Procurement & Marketing, breaks it all down in this Q&A about life at ScherZinger.

Q: When someone comes to work for ScherZinger Pest Control, what can they expect to make?
A: Obviously, that would depend on the position, but a pest control technician (someone who is out in the field) can reasonably expect to make $40,000 or $50,000 their first year.

Q: What kind of benefits does ScherZinger offer employees?
A: We really do think of our employees as family, so we do everything we can to provide not only a living wage but also a full range of benefits. Some of the benefits we offer are:

  • A 401K with an employer match.
  • Medical benefits (health insurance).
  • A commission structure.
  • Company-paid life insurance.
  • Paid holidays.
  • Vacation days.

Q: What are some reasons someone should join the ScherZinger team?
A: If someone is looking for a career, a stable environment and a place to call home, ScherZinger is the place. We offer paid training and licensing so an employee really can make this more than just a “job.” And we’ve been in business since 1934; in fact, were fourth-generation family owned and operated at this point, so there’s definitely stability here that an applicant may not find elsewhere.

Q: What does onboarding look like for a new employee?
A: Once a candidate is offered a position at ScherZinger, he or she will work closely with HR to ensure onboarding is a smooth and successful process. On the first day, the new employee will meet ScherZinger President, Kurt Scherzinger, as well as the other managers on the leadership team to welcome them.

For all roles, candidates go through industry-based training at the beginning, which consists of classroom and field training to ensure that new hires understand the nature of our business and are provided a better understanding of pest control.

Once training is complete, new employees move onto “on-the-job” training, working directly with peers and their supervisor. We prepare our technicians and pay for them to get their pest control license, which isn’t required in Ohio but we feel is important.

Q: Talk to us about ongoing training. Is there ongoing training provided?
A: ScherZinger invests in our employees by holding training sessions in team meetings—we review topics within our industry to help everyone stay up-to-date on new treatments and approaches to pest control.

Q: What kinds of employees are you looking for? What specific qualities?
A: We look for potential candidates from the service industry, route drivers and individuals who are/were field technicians in other industries.

In the field technician roles, there is a certain physicality. You have to be able to bend, crouch, twist, and move pest control equipment. However, you don’t need to be a triathlon level athlete. We’ve had very successful techs of all ages, both men and women.

Q: What kinds of growth opportunities are available?
A: Growth opportunities include becoming a trainer; senior roles in our call center and field support departments; or supervisor roles.

Q: What if someone is scared of bugs? Should they stay away from applying?
A: In order to be in a technician role, you can’t be bothered by bugs (ants, spiders, roaches, bed bugs, etc.) as you will be in contact with them on a daily basis. However, all of the training a new tech undergoes before entering the field teaches him or her how to be in contact safely.

Q: Anything else you’d like to add?
A: We are a fourth-generation family business which is unique and something we are incredibly proud of.

We welcome potential candidates to become members of the ScherZinger family of pest management professionals by completing and submitting our online application.
