Q: Thinking of ScherZinger as an employer, what are three words that come to mind?
A: Family, integrity, service heart.
Q: “Service heart …” that’s an interesting response and one you don’t hear often. Tell us more about that. What does that mean to ScherZinger?
A: At ScherZinger, we feel “service heart” means to put others’ needs in front of your own and helping someone else when it may not be convenient for you.
Q: What are some reasons someone should join the ScherZinger team?
A: If someone is looking for a career, a stable environment and a place to call home, ScherZinger is the place.
Q: What does onboarding look like for a new employee?
A: Once a candidate is offered a position at ScherZinger, he or she will work closely with HR to ensure onboarding is a smooth and successful process. On the first day, the new employee will meet ScherZinger President Kurt Scherzinger as well as the other managers on the leadership team to welcome them. For all roles, candidates go through industry-based training at the beginning, which consists of classroom, online/textbook and field training to ensure that new hires understand the nature of our business and are provided a better understanding of pest control. Once training is complete, new employees move onto “on-the-job” training, working directly with peers and their supervisor. We prepare our technicians and pay for them to get their pest control license (which isn’t required in Ohio but we feel is important, as well as in Kentucky where it is required).
Q: Talk to us about ongoing training. Is there ongoing training provided?
A: ScherZinger invests in our employees by holding training sessions in team meetings—we review topics within our industry to help everyone stay updated on new treatments and approaches to pest control.
Q: How long do employees usually stay at ScherZinger?
A: We have employees who have been here anywhere from five years to some who have been with us for more than 20 years.
Q: What kinds of employees are you looking for? What specific qualities?
A: We look for potential candidates from the service industry, route drivers and individuals who are/were field technicians in other industries.
Q: What kinds of growth opportunities are available?
A: Growth opportunities include becoming a trainer; senior roles in our call center and field support departments; or supervisor roles.
Q: What if someone is scared of bugs? Should they stay away from applying?
A: In order to be in a technician role, you can’t be bothered by bugs (ants, spiders, roaches, bed bugs, etc.) as you will be in contact with them on a daily basis.
Q: Anything else you’d like to add?
A: We are a fourth-generation family business which is unique and something we are incredibly proud of.
